Notice to mariners
Cookies Policy
Last updated 17 September 2026 · [email protected]
marinegrib.com uses a short list of first-party cookies and on-device storage so a skipper can stay signed in, keep locale and currency, and replay a GRIB pack offline. We do not set advertising cookies. Last updated 17 September 2026.
1. What this covers
This policy covers HTTP cookies, local storage, and IndexedDB used by MarineGrib, plus cookies set by Square and by Google or X if you join with those providers. It should be read with the Privacy Policy.
2. What we store
Strictly necessary cookies run the login. Functional storage remembers how you left the console. The GRIB cache is not a cookie; it is a binary pack on the device so satellite mode still works when the link drops.
| Name / store | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Keeps you signed in after Join or Sign in. Strictly necessary. | Session / a few weeks |
| Locale & currency | Remembers language and the converted Square price. First-party local storage. | Until you clear site data |
| Theme / night vision | Remembers OLED night or sunlight mode. | Until you clear site data |
| Chart region | Remembers the last basin so the next watch opens on your waters. | Until you clear site data |
| IndexedDB GRIB cache | Stores compressed wind, swell, and pressure packs for offline replay. | Until you clear site data |
3. Third parties
Square sets its own cookies on square.link when you open a Pro, Annual, or Crew payment link. That checkout is Square’s service; their cookie notice applies there. Open-Meteo is called from our server to pack GRIB and does not set cookies in your browser. If you continue with Google or X, those providers set their own cookies on their domains during OAuth.
4. Consent
UK PECR and ePrivacy allow strictly necessary cookies without a banner. Session login is strictly necessary. Locale, currency, theme, region, and GRIB cache are first-party functional storage used to deliver the service you asked for; they are not used to profile you across other sites. We will ask before we ever add analytics or advertising cookies. None are on the console today.
5. How to control storage
Sign out to drop the session cookie. Use the browser’s clear-site-data or “cookies and site data” controls for marinegrib.com to wipe local storage and IndexedDB. Blocking all cookies will stop Join and Sign in from working. Satellite GRIB will re-download on the next open if the cache is cleared.
